May 1998-- Read Me notes for Studio Vision Pro 4.0.1. This release fixes the following problems: € When sequences are on the clipboard, opening a new file will no longer cause a crash. € Option+clicking a title bar on a tracks window no longer opens a pulse window for the chosen sequence; now it will open a tracks window. € Audio can now be quantized. € SV will no longer crash when choosing Export Audio Mix. € The Where Is dialog when using DAE will no longer cause random crashes. € Punch recording audio will once again clear out any previously existing audio on the track. € SVP will now sync correctly with 29.97 fps movies in the QuickTime Movie Window. € Files from Vision 1.1 and before may once again be opened. € A problem that resulted in random crashes when compacting or quitting has been fixed. € "Set Legato To an oscillating value" is now correctly supported in the Modify window -- the fields to set the "legato limit" are now separate from those to set the waveform period. € Entering a number in the Scale Time or Time Scale dialog for the beginning of the selection will no longer cause a hang. € Deleting or removing from list in the File Managment Dialog will no longer be a problem while playing. € An IllegalReadTime crash has been prevented in many edit operations. € Opening a file with a saved open tracks or Pulse Window displaying a tempo strip chart will no longer cause a crash. € Changing a tempo in the List Window now redraws the window if SMPTE times are shown in it, so you can see the effect of the tempo change. € Building consoles from MIDI instruments which haven't had any pan played on them yet now centers the pan fader. € You can once again insert key signatures where there were none in the Notation window. € Muting the tempo and changing it while playing will no longer hang the program when stopping. € Sequences containing audio events may no longer be stored as templates. (controllers on audio instruments are OK) € When nudging, the cursor doesn't change to a watch, so there's no flicker when holding down the nudge command keys for repeated nudges. € When nudging in pitch, there's now audible feedback, sounding the new pitch for the first selected note. € You will now get an alert if you try to set a menu key equivalent to command-option-shift something, because that combination is reserved for help. It's OK to use the combination for non-menu commands, though, like "Record" and "Toggle Cursor Quantize". Also, you'll no longer get an alert if you assign the key combination to a command or menu that's already assigned. Also, the Help key is now the default key equivalent for "About Online Help...". € Instrument transpose maps are now saved correctly in setup files. € With DAE, using a Bridge I/O card will no longer crash SVP. Also includes connecting an interface to a DSP Farm card, since for PCI the DSP Farm is also your Bridge I/O card, when you connect an interface to it. € Unmuting a tempo track moves SMPTE markers appropriately to preserve their SMPTE times. € A looped track in a looped sequence with negative shift now plays correctly at the loop point even in loop record. € Ability to play more than 16 tracks of digital audio when using a d24 card has been restored. --------------------- In addition, the following features have been added: The Pulse Window It is now possible to have multiple Pulse Windows open for the same sequence, which is desirable if you'd like them set to different Matrix values. With a Pulse Window active (in front), simply choose Windows>Pulse, or click on the Pulse button in the Control Bar, to open an additional Pulse Window. With a Pulse Window in the background, you can open additional Pulse Windows by Shift-double-clicking a drum track's selector dot or track block, or Shift-click the Pulse button in the Control Bar. Also, double-clicking a single-track sequence event block from the Tracks Window that references a drum track, now opens a Pulse Window (instead of a Tracks Window). Do Menu Changes The upper portion of the Do menu has the following changes... ---- Transpose (Command-T) Quantize (Option-G) Modify (Command-Y) Reassign Set Instrument Substitute Select/Modify Templates> ---- Quantize (Command-G) Select & Modify (Command-R) The newly added Reassign item opens the Select & Modify Window configured for that command. Substitute has been moved up higher within the menu. Also, any of your saved templates for Select & Modify are now available from the Do menu. The main Select & Modify menu item, which changes its name depending on the configuration of the Select & Modify Window (i.e. Transpose Track), now uses a default key equivalent of Command-R. You may find that you now have two Command-R functions: New Record Track in the Edit Menu, and in the Do Menu for Select and Modify. To correct this situation, you can either go to the Commands window and delete the Command-R function for New Record Track, or, if you haven't changed any default menu, command keys or MIDIkeys, or created any sequence templates, you can simply delete the file StudioVision Setup. Quantize Command The Quantize command is now always available (just as in version 3.5 and earlier), regardless of the current configuration of the Select & Modify Window. To invoke Quantize, choose Do>Quantize Selection or use Command-G. The Quantize parameters used are those last specified in the Select & Modify Window. You can still use Do>Quantize (Option-G) to open the Select & Modify Window configured with the Quantize parameters. Quantized Events Quantize can now affect event types like controllers, fader events, patch events, etc. However, when "Events" is specified in the Events Type pop-up of the Select & Modify Window, Quantize only affects note, audio, and sequence events. All other event types must be specified in the Events Type pop-up before they will be Quantized. Select & Modify Buttons The buttons in the Select & Modify Window are now active even if the window is not in front. You can click on the Quantize or Transpose buttons, for instance, and the window won't come to the front. Waveform Period When using an Oscillator Shape in the Strip Chart with the Pencil tool selected, you can click the Pencil tool to automatically open the Settings Window -- where the Waveform Period may be specified. Sustain Audio Across Segments Check this new option in the Settings Window to ensure that audio events played from a sequence event last for their full duration -- even if the referenced segment or sequence stops playing. If you uncheck this option, the audio will stop playing when the sequence event ends, or when it reaches the loop end point (if it is set to repeat). Audio Recording Preferences A pop-up at the top of this dialog now specifies whether the record preferences apply to a specific input channel, or all inputs. Therefore, each input channel can have its own naming convention and own folder location. DSP Preferences The naming convention in the DSP Preferences dialog has been changed to be more consistent with that of the Audio Recording Preferences dialog. These file names are specified by two pop-up menus separated by a dash followed by a "Unique Number." For instance... "Untitled-Norm.001" Select Unused in File Management Window The menu in the File Management Window has a new item called "Select Unused." Use it to select all audio files that are unused for the current Vision file. Once the unused files are selected, you can use Shift-click to add or remove files from the selection. Once selected, the files can then be deleted, or removed from the File Management Window. NOTE: "Select Unused" only selects files appearing in the File Management Window as white with "0 events." If a recently deleted audio files is still in the Undo buffer, you'll have to choose "Clear Clip and Undo" before the file is considered unused. Yamaha CBX Support Yamaha CBX is again available as an Audio System. CBX users may encounter some problems with sequences containing many small audio events. To get around this problem, use the Mix command to write single contiguous files for such tracks.
