Before Installing... Make sure you have Musicshop 2.0 or 2.0.1 installed on your computer. For copy protection purposes, Musicshop 2.0.2 relies on a file that is installed with Musicshop 2.0 or 2.0.1. ============================================================ MUSICSHOP 2.0.2 FOR WINDOWS ============================================================ This Read Me file documents the following items: 1. System Requirements 2. Manual Addendum 3. Known Problems 4. What's New in 2.0.2 5. Uninstallers 6. Technical Support Options ------------------------------------------------------------ 1. SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS ------------------------------------------------------------ To use Musicshop 2.0.2 for Windows, you need: - IBM PC 486/66MHz or faster - Windows 3.1 or Windows 95 - 12 MB RAM (16 MB recommended) - 8 MB free hard disk space - Windows compatible MIDI Interface or Sound Card ------------------------------------------------------------ 2. MANUAL ADDENDUM ------------------------------------------------------------ Following are additions and changes to your Musicshop Reference Manual: --Patch Selector When a track contains 2 or more patch changes, selections from the Patch Selector (trumpet pop-up) are not inserted into the track. In these instances, additional program changes can only be added using the Strip Chart. --Record Mode and Patch Events Patch change events are erased when recording in Replace mode. Therefore, once all recording is finalized for a track, make sure to select the desired patch from the trumpet pop-up and then save. --Punch/Loop Recording After punch or loop recording, you must manually turn off Loop Play/Record and switch to Replace mode to hear the sequence playback from the beginning. Or simply use shift-[ and shift-] to erase the punch points. --Recording with External Sync Enabled Please note that when External Sync is enabled (checked), the Setups>Countoff menu item changes to Autopunch; in this instance, recording will automatically start when reaching the punch-in point. If Wait for Note is enabled when using External Sync, recording will start when notes are played or when reaching the punch-in point (whichever is encountered first). --Viewing System Exclusive in Strip Chart System exclusive events in the Strip Chart now display a number next to them, indicating the size of the event. --Arrangement Window The Cursor Quantize setting in the Edit Window affects the Arrangement Window. Also, there is cursor feedback in the Status Bar of the Arrange window indicating cursor location and, when dragging a sequence, sequence start times. --Real-time Editing and Arrangements Attempting to edit a sequence while playing an arrangement may occasionally cause a crash. Whether this will happen, depends largely on the complexity of the arrangement and the type of edit involved. If you must perform a real-time edit, play the sequence in question from the main transport controls. --Print Preview Font Menu The pop-up menu for font selection in the Print Preview Window has been replaced with a Font menu in the menu bar. The Font menu only appears when the Print Preview Window is open. Following are some items not covered in your OMS manual: --OMS Setup Help There is an extensive Windows Help file accessible from within OMS Setup. Simply select "OMS Topics" from OMS Setup's Help menu. --OMS Folder Page 4 of your OMS Manual mistakenly states that the OMS Setup program is placed inside a folder called "OMSAPPS." The actual name of this folder is "OMS" and it contains a number of OMS related files, along with the OMS Setup program. ------------------------------------------------------------ 3. KNOWN PROBLEMS ------------------------------------------------------------ --Displayed Colors and Video Drivers If the Track Bar colors do not match the colors displayed by the MIDI data in the tracks, check your video card driver. You may not be using the optimal color scheme for that driver. For example, this problem might appear if you're displaying 16 colors when the video driver is optimized for 256 colors or more. -- Slower CPUs and Sysex CPUs with a clock speed of 50MHz or less may experience some problems with recording system exclusive data. Keep in mind, these CPUs are below the recommended system requirements. ------------------------------------------------------------ 4. WHAT'S NEW IN 2.0.2 ------------------------------------------------------------ -- Fixed memory problems which might have led to crashes during prolonged use. -- Fixed random crashes while sending or receiving MIDI Time Code. -- Fixed crashes due to some sysex messages. -- Fixed several problems related to the Names window. -- Patch groupings, including groupings by bank, are now available. -- The control bar no longer disappears, enlarges, or draws with a while line over it due to corrupt preferences. -- Enhanced the chasing of program changes. -- Sysex messages will no longer inhibit subsequent program changes from being sent. -- Musicshop will stop playing when reaching the end of a MIDI file. ------------------------------------------------------------ 5. UNINSTALLERS ------------------------------------------------------------ The installer for Musicshop 2.0.2 installs 2 batch files into your Opcode folder. -- Double click on DelPrefs.bat to delete all your Opcode Preferences, Setups, and Studio Setups. You should use this batch file if you are experiencing multiple consecutive crashes. -- Double click on DelApps.bat to delete all files related to Musicshp, OMS, OMS Setup, and the Opcode shortcuts in your Start Menu. This batch file doesn't delete your Preferences and Setups. If you want to completely delete all Opcode software then run DelPrefs.bat followed by DelApps.bat. These applications are DOS based, and are not as smart as the installer. They will work correctly only if: -- You have not changed the names of the installed files. -- You have preserved the directory names: c:\opcode\oms, c:\opcode\musicshp, & c:\windows. If you have changed the names of files or directories then you may want open the batch files in an editor. The batch files at least provide a listing of the installed files so that you may delete the files on your own if you so desire. ------------------------------------------------------------ 6.
